Job Description
We are creators of resilience.
Working with us means building a more resilient world. Join us in constructing a more resilient world with innovative and sustainable maritime, offshore, and dredging solutions.
The position
Were you born with an inquisitive mind? As an R&D
engineer at Van Oord you can indulge yourself and hone your research
skills. From deep water far out at sea to the land reclamation at the coast,
our projects are often unique and full of technical, organizational and
financial challenges. Do you want to play a decisive role in further improving
our dredging practice? Then apply as an R&D engineer at Van Oord!
Your responsibilities
Whether it concerns coastal replenishment, the
reclamation of artificial islands or the deepening of a shipping channel, fluid
mechanics, soil mechanics, mechanical processes and many more aspects play a
role in dredging. You conduct research into these aspects and then advise us on
the renewal of dredging techniques and the consequences for our dredging
equipment. You gain and consolidate expertise on the basis of model
simulations, laboratory measurements and practical tests on board of our many
types of equipment.
This expertise we then use for the modification or
newbuild of equipment. You are involved in the entire R&D process, from the
initial design to the tests in our sometimes unpredictable practice. This way
you can see from the front row how your work contributes to the learning curve
that we strive for as an innovative company. A very interesting position, where
your knowledge and ingenuity are called upon from the head office in Rotterdam
to the trailing suction hopper dredger in the Yellow Sea.
Your workplace
You will become part of a multidisciplinary team. The
team culture is based on respect, involvement, transparency, cooperation and
direct constructive feedback. We like “out of the box”
and iterative improvements based on model-based
process insight validated against real-world data. The success, the value
creation, is measured by the application in our practice.
Job requirements
Your R&D engineering skills are evident from your
structured, result-oriented and tenacious way of working. This way you gain
innovative knowledge that you would like to share. Knowledge sharing can be
just as easily with your colleagues in the office or on board of a vessel as
well as with the attendees at an international conference. They see your
enthusiasm for the subject! You also bring:
·
A university degree in civil engineering or mechanical
engineering
·
Knowledge of or great interest in dredging technology,
hydrodynamics, soil mechanics and measurement techniques
·
Experience is welcome, but not necessary
·
Excellent command of the English language
We offer
The opportunity to test theory in practice, both with
(computer) simulations and on board of our large unique equipment around the
world. We challenge you to think innovatively, multidisciplinary, realistically
and at the same time out-of-the-box. Aslo, we offer you a position in which you
will have an important contribution to our mission 'building a better world for
future generations'. In addition, we offer you:
·
A salary that matches your responsibilities and
experience;
·
Travel allowance (€0.31 per km) and home office
allowance (€2,15 per day);
·
32 leave days per year;
·
Variable bonus;
·
Pension scheme;
·
Collective health insurance (optional);
·
Flexible working from home policy, 2 days a week when
working on a full-time basis;
·
Extensive learning and (personal) development
possibilities, including a wide range of online courses via Goodhabitz;
·
You can join communities, like Young Van Oord, Van
Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association;
·
We organise several (sport) events, e.g. winter sport,
weekend of sailing, cycling and a motorcycle tour.
