  DescriptionYour role at GEI.Job DescriptionThe Grade 4 Project Engineer role (Salt Lake City, UT) is a mid-level position suited for obtaining experience in the field of practice (geotechnical, geological, and tunnel/trenchless design), learning the fundamentals of management for engineering projects, honing professional communication and collaboration protocols, while implementing tasks with moderate supervisor mentorship and colleague support.Dates

  • Posting and interviews: 1/1/2024 – 4/1/2024
  • Anticipated start: Negotiable with qualified candidate. Spring 2024 preferred.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Arrange and document geotechnical investigations including civil geotechnical drilling, well construction, field mapping, and other field work with the purpose of obtaining geotechnical data. Includes managing subcontractors including geotechnical engineering partners, drillers, laboratories, downhole testing, and traffic control (10-30%).
  • Manage low-risk geotechnical projects with limited components, subcontractors, and scope and with close supervision by Senior-level staff (10-50%).
  • Perform resident engineering, construction management, or construction observation services for project-related activities by documenting observed field activities, exercising engineering judgement in field situations, and, with Project Manager approval, communicating design issues with project participants including engineers, contractors, and clients (0-100%).
  • Prepare geotechnical, tunnel, and trenchless deliverables for senior review, including design calculation packages, specifications, drawings, reports, memorandums, cost estimates, contract documents, and others (30-80%).
  • May supervise or coordinate the work of staff engineers, draftspersons, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.
  • May participate in professional business development efforts.
  • May communicate with project clients and teaming partners, deferring to senior-level staff.
  • Assist in preparing proposal elements at the direction of Senior-level staff.
  • Provide other tasks to support project managers.

  Working Conditions

  • Field tasks will be performed in all reasonable working conditions:
    • Temperatures 0 - 100 degrees Fahrenheit
    • Winds < 60 mph
    • Clear to wet
    • Lifting loads up to 50+ pounds may be required several times per day (i.e. lifting supplies/samples in and out of company trucks)
    • Tasks may require occasional travel on steep/uneven terrain and in confined spaces for durations up to 10 hours per day.
    • With prior communication, tasks may require rare non-standard business hours/working days such as night or weekend shifts.
  • Office tasks will be performed in individual cubicle/office spaces with communal areas.
    • Remote work (2 days per week) is available pending weekly job duties.

The Grade 4 Project Engineer compensation ranges from $80,000 – 95,000 full time. The ideal candidate will fill the position located in Salt Lake City, Utah.Other GEI benefits include:
