About The JobWe are seeking a talented and experienced Coastal Engineer to join our team as a Practice Director. We are looking for someone to shape, lead and manage our coastal engineering practice, with the ability and eagerness to work on both projects and business development efforts. You will collaborate with engineers, planners, and scientists to deliver innovative solutions for design, planning, implementation, and permitting challenges in the coastal zone. - Lead and manage coastal engineering projects, serving as a technical specialist and project specialist and project director.
- Conduct/oversee coastal engineering studies, including wave and sediment transport analysis, hydrodynamic modeling, and coastal erosion modeling to address various topics such as flooding, erosion, sea level rise, sediment management, and restoration.
- Conduct site inspections and field investigations to gather data necessary for project designs.
- Develop engineering design and contract documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase of projects.
- Prepare/oversee reports, including impact assessments, feasibility studies, and engineering analyses, to support project design and implementation.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that project milestones and deadlines are met.
- Provide technical guidance and present information to colleagues, clients, agency staff, teaming partners, and other project stakeholders.
- Support project pursuits, including proposal preparation, for coastal projects.
- Participate in professional organizations, conferences, and other industry events to stay informed about the latest trends, industry standards, and best practices in coastal engineering.
- Drive business development efforts, including the development of proposals, participation in interviews, and successful contract negotiations.
- Collaborate with experts across disciplines to promote multi-objective solutions.
- Mentor and support the professional development of other engineers.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Environmental, or Coastal Engineering
- Master's degree is required
- California Professional Engineers license in one of the above disciplines
- Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in coastal engineering.
- Strong experience with coastal analysis and hydrodynamic modeling software.
- In-depth knowledge of principles and practices of coastal engineering, including wave and sediment transport analysis, beach nourishment, and coastal protection.
- Proficiency in using engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and/or GIS.
- Strong marketing experience, including proposal development, participation in interviews, and successful contract negotiations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
- Service-oriented, motivated self-starter with sound business practices.
- Understanding of the permitting needs of projects in the California Coastal Zone.
