Our team of talented people are dedicated to our shared mission: to provide solutions that help people design and build safer, stronger structures.Learn about our company culture directly from our team.YOU As a Structural Steel Business Specialist, you will be responsible for driving the growth of Simpson's share in the Structural Steel market in the South East territory. You will coordinate with and contribute to the overall branch and company efforts to profitably grow our business. You are responsible for developing a knowledge base of the structural steel products and the industry which they serve to be considered a subject matter expert. Additionally, you are responsible for identifying and addressing customer needs, competition, and market potential and helping to formulate and execute the business strategy for this industry. You will also lead and participate in training sessions/workshops in and out of the territory. These workshops require scheduling, promotion, set-up, presentation, and take-down, as well as providing observation and suggestions for improvement. You will work with Regional Sales Managers, Industry Design Professionals, Fabricators, Erectors, Specifiers, Product Management, Marketing, and other field sales representatives to develop/coordinate sales strategies and programs; and communicate appropriate market trends and field intelligence to provide to Management and Operations to ensure customer satisfaction.  WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (% of Time) Work individually and with team members to identify opportunities, understand competitive market conditions and industry trends. Develop and maintain relationships with engineers, engineering firms, general contractors, steel fabricators and steel erectors within the region. (50%)  Conduct technical presentations for individuals, groups and professional associations involved in new construction and/or the upgrade of existing structural steel systems focusing on general technical knowledge as well as the advantages of specifying Simpson products. (25%)  Promote Simpson Strong-Tie as an industry partner and potential employer; participate in trade shows, association meetings and various committees and/or causes; provide educational opportunities in classroom settings throughout your territory to various audiences which could include suppliers, specifiers, building officials, and contractors. (10%)  Other duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to, consistent CRM management and usage, scheduling, business planning, submitting expense reports in a timely manner, regular maintenance of company-owned vehicles, and other duties as assigned. (5%)  Work with marketing and product management on the best way to introduce new products and information to the market. Work with the product management team to help in identifying new potential products and tools needed to increase sales of the product line. (5%)  Provide in-the-office and on-the-job field support to steel fabricators and erectors on steel projects with Simpson specified structural steel solutions offerings. (5%)  DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE If you can do everything listed above, you’ve got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • 3-5 years of industry experience and/or training. Fluent in structural steel construction practices and distribution channels. Must have a strong working knowledge of project workflow from architect/engineer to the contractor.  Sales and account management experience with a proven track record of sales/profit growth. 
  • Technical: Practical working knowledge of common steel construction methods. Familiarity with Simpson products is a plus.  Working knowledge of structural engineering process and practices.  Familiarity with structural design software is a plus. 
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to develop and present captivating presentations and incorporate sales skills to step a prospect through a story. 
  • Creative & Innovative Thinking: Ability to exhibit creativity and innovation when contributing to organizational and individual objectives. 
  • Decision Making & Judgement: Ability to balance analysis, wisdom, experience, and perspective when making decisions.

  • Computer/Software/Technology: Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point), Salesforce CRM, SAP ERP, and other industry standard software packages. Ability to learn new systems in a timely manner.
  • Driving Record: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required. 

 TRAVEL REQUIRED This job requires 35%-50% domestic travel.  WORK STATUS & LOCATION This full-time, exempt position is located in the South East region. RELOCATION Relocation is not available for this position. PAY$69,500 - $84,500 / YearREWARDS AT SIMPSON STRONG-TIEWe recognize and reward employees with a carefully designed and comprehensive rewards package, including competitive compensation, quarterly bonuses or commission and first-rate benefits.
