Job Description

As a student at PCL, you will get the opportunity for challenging work assignments in a supportive work environment that promotes personal and professional growth. We are seeking Engineering Students, for our Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Sudbury, Ontario locations, within our Canadian Buildings Division that is available for 4 months starting in January 2024. This position will be under the direct supervisor of the Project Superintendent or Project Manager. As an Engineering Student and depending on your assigned project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our team by:

Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination
    • Coordinating drawings
    • Coordinating work specific scope/trades
    • Conducting trade quote reviews – verify material quantities, verify hours, verify rates
    • Participating in project meetings
    • Conducting deficiency walks
    • Inputting / Updating deficiency logs
    • Issuing warranties
    • Taking / Coordinating progress photos
    • Updating field drawings
    • Producing as-built drawings
  • Field Coordination
    • Performing quantity takeoffs
    • Coordinating sub-trade work
    • Verifying site conditions and coordinating with drawings
    • Supervising sub-trade work
    • Setting up / Maintaining record keeping
    • Layout site lines and grades using total station
  • Scheduling:
    • Updating project schedules
    • Creating manual schedules
    • Creating and updating schedules using Suretrak software
    • Obtaining scheduling information from sub-trades

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

  • Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
  • Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications, and drafting.
  • A willingness to work on remote projects (Northern Ontario, Northern Manitoba) should the opportunity arise.
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program and will be returning after the co-op term or graduating thereafter.
