Overview: SUMMIT Engineering, a Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) Company has an opening in our Structural Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.
As a Structural Project Manager, you will provide structural framing and foundation designs for residential and commercial clients. In addition you will perform field visits, on-site evaluations and provide engineering reports for clients needing field repairs, plan clarification, or structural inspections.
Job Responsibilities
- Complete structural calculations using analysis software and/or by hand for residential and commercial projects using materials including wood, structural steel, concrete, and masonry
- Prepare structural plans using CAD software
- Perform site visits to assess field issues or provide structural inspections and prepare corresponding reports
- Develop and manage projects with clients
- Oversee project assignments, deadlines, and meetings
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Provide quality control and quality assurance on all project work
- Assist with proposals for existing/future clients and projects
- Daily communication with site contractors, field staff and project managers
- Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Approximately 80% office work and 20% field work
- Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
- Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing and potentially repetitive motions
- Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)
- Some weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required. You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day.
- Ability to read and interpret construction and CAD documents
- Ability to calculate results from structural inspections
- Ability to accurately complete field paperwork and detailed figures
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions on-site
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business memos, and proposals
- Ability to write reports, proposals and business correspondence in a professional manner
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License
- Required: 4-year Civil Engineering degree from an accredited university
- Preferred: Concentration in structural engineering
- Professional Certifications
- Preferred: Professional Engineering License in NC/SC
- Required: Engineering-In-Training (EIT) certificate
- Knowledge of International Building and Residential Codes, ACI, ASCE-07
- Preferred to have experience with:
- Concrete Design
- Timber Design
- Steel Design
- Retaining Wall Design
- 1-2 years of structural engineering and/or residential design/construction experience
- Strong written and verbal communication and ability to use technology/computer
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD and various engineering programs
