The Approval organization within Maritime Ship Classification consists of Approval Centre Norway (Høvik and Ålesund), Approval Centre Germany (Hamburg) and Approval Support Centre Poland (Gdynia). A total number of employees is ~430 with the two bigger units in Norway and Germany and a smaller unit in Poland. The main delivery from the Approval organization is approval, verification and certification services for different maritime related assets, mainly newbuildings, systems and components. The Approval organization in DNV GL is driven by people’s competence and motivation to help and support our customers through the consistent delivery of high-quality services. We are seeking a skillful, curious, and agile Junior Approval Engineer in our Hull Structure & Outfitting section located in Hamburg, Germany or Gdynia, Poland. You will be part of our team of 10 highly qualified engineers, who are responsible for structural drawing approval and rule development of Container Ships and Multi-Purpose Vessels. Tasks/ ResponsibilitiesAs a part of our team, you will be involved in our main deliveries and responsibilities, such as:
- Prescriptive calculations (3D and 2D) of Container Ships and Multi-Purpose Vessels
- FEM Cargo Hold Analysis for these ship types with in-house calculation tools
- Approval of equipment, such as hatch covers, rudders, lashing bridges and cell guides
- Approval of cargo securing manuals, cargo safe access plans and container securing arrangement plans
- Participation in different practice networks for ships hull and calculation tool development
- Rule development for Container Ships, Multi-Purpose Vessels and Cargo Securing
Position Qualifications
We are looking for a colleague who has:
- An engineering degree (Bachelor or Master) within naval architecture
- Experience with FEM analysis technics and related software
- Preferably experience with hull structural approval and cargo stowage and securing principles
- Ability to handle several projects in parallel
- Willingness to perform business trips to support our clients as well as our worldwide organization

- Team player with a positive attitude who strive to obtain results for the team
- Open-minded and curious
- Good communication skills, verbally and in writing. Preferably good knowledge of German language. Company language is English.
