Our diverse and skilled teams are engaged in major projects across Transport, Water, Energy and renewables sectors.The RoleWe are seeking to engage Geotechnical Engineers at various levels to join our Geotech & Tunnels team in QLD and NSW. In this role you’ll be responsible for providing high quality design and engineering knowledge and effective project management skills to support the ongoing activities of a leading multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy and to provide the complete analysis and design tasks as assigned by Managers or Project Managers.Note: We have opportunities available at various levels within our teams in Grafton, Canberra, Newcastle, Sydney, Cooma, Wollongong, Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville, Gold CoastResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assuming responsibility for management of small, medium and possibly large scale projects. This will include: cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, project scheduling and meeting deadlines and budgets
  • Demonstrating awareness of environmental and community issues impacting projects
  • Liaising with clients and appropriate stakeholders to ascertain information required to undertake design and documentation tasks
  • Producing outcomes that require innovative thought and intellectual rigor
  • Challenging current practice to identify opportunities for improvement through a multi-disciplined approach
  • Developing and apply new engineering practices
  • Analysing client requirements for the design criteria to ensure that specifications are included in the requirements
  • Supporting other streams in the delivery of high standard designs, verification and onsite supervision
  • Supervision of drawing production for assigned tasks is undertaken in accordance with SMEC procedures as appropriate
  • Preparing complex client and technical reports and undertaking peer reviews
  • Building and maintaining internal and external networks and relationships
  • Communicating openly and regularly with the appropriate contributors and stakeholders
  • Proactively liaising with other design disciplines to develop and maintain design co-ordination
  • Actively participating in and where appropriate, leading project and team meetings, contributing ideas, energy and enthusiasm
  • Identifying opportunities in the market, leading SMEC’s proposal, and securing new work
  • Actively enhancing SMEC’s market brand presence through ongoing professional activities
  • Assisting in the management and training of staff including selection
  • Contributing to the overall management and profitability of the discipline
  • Identifying social, environmental and financial issues with the proposed engineering solutions
  • Demonstrating commercial awareness, providing regular progress reports

About YouSuitable applicants will be/have:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Engineering
  • Relevant industry certification – CPEng, RPEQ (QLD) if applicable level
  • Relevant industry experience as a Geotechnical Engineer, ideally with experience on large scale / major infrastructure projects
  • Ability to interpret and communicate information of a complex nature
  • Proven project management skills (achieving prescribed budget, timeframe and client requirements)
  • Familiar with relevant Australian Standards and specifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Well-developed skills in undertaking a co-operative and flexible work style to work in a team environment
  • Skills in managing competing priorities and working under pressure
