What You Will Do:
Gannett Fleming’s geotechnical engineering practice provides solutions for foundation design and rehabilitation, underground construction, earth structures and water resources. Exploration, analysis, and design related to soil, rock and groundwater is an essential part of every project. Our engineers and geologists specialize in foundation design and testing, landslides, sinkholes, mine subsidence, seepage, expansive soils, and seismic activity. Our Geotechnical Practice is currently seeking a self-motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer possessing 15 to 20 years of related experience to join our office in Toronto, Ontario. As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will lead and assist our geotechnical engineers and project managers in planning and overseeing subsurface explorations and performing analyses for municipal infrastructure, transportation, rail, and other types of projects. Duties/Responsibilities include:
- Lead staff in planning and overseeing field explorations, construction projects, laboratory testing, design and analysis of shallow and deep foundations for highway and/or rail bridges and major hydraulic structures, stability and seepage analyses of earthen embankments, settlement estimates, lateral earth pressure assessments for retaining walls, pavement design, and ground improvement assessments for complex sites
- Lead geotechnical engineer and/or project manager for engineering projects for a wide variety of engineering projects for public and private sector clients;
- Manage our client relationships, including business and new client development to expand the scope of our existing services Develop or review full design packages with geotechnical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications
- Working in a team environment providing geotechnical engineering services for internal (i.e., Roadway, Environmental Management, Transit & Rail, Construction Management, etc.) and external clients
- Lead junior staff in executing geotechnical engineering projects from the proposal stage, to planning and directing the field program, through data analysis and detailed design, to reporting and delivering solutions to our clients;
- Providing technical direction to junior staff
- Collaborate with Gannett Fleming U.S. offices, as required
- Develop proposals and participate in other business development activities
Education | Experience:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s Degree with Geotechnical focus preferred
- Currently a registered P.Eng
- Minimum 15 to 20 years of progressive work experience in geotechnical practice in the Ontario area
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, gINT, ALLPILE, GEO-SLOPE, GRLWEAP, LPILE, PLAXIS, SHAFT, SETTLE3D software
- A sound base in the application of geotechnical engineering to problem solving
- Experience with Low, Medium, and High Complexity MTO projects, as well as transit project experience with clients such as Metrolinx and TTC.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Must be willing to travel, including extended periods out of town at remote project sites, regional offices, and as required by the scope of the project
- Must have current Driver’s License
