  • Organize and direct the activities of staff within the functional group reporting to this position or assigned to projects under this position's authority.
  • Maintain morale within the group and review staff performance, advising on professional development and advancement opportunities.
  • Prepare and monitor operating financials for the group, overseeing budgets and profitability. Provide quarterly projections.
  • Assist accounting in timely invoicing for work performed by the group and follow up with clients regarding funds due.
  • Direct the planning and development of project scopes, procedures, budgets, and schedules.
  • Ensure consistency and quality control in all work performed by the group, coordinating with other company groups to establish performance standards.
  • Review job assignments to address health and safety concerns.
  • Support business development for the group and other firm groups.
  • Collaborate with executive management to develop short- and long-term plans for group advancement and growth.
  • Maintain communication with other DLZ groups, offices, and business development staff to maximize utilization of company capabilities.
  • Participate in civic/professional activities and encourage subordinates to do the same.
  • Familiarize yourself with the collective bargaining agreement under which field personnel work.
  • Oversee geotechnical drilling and engineering scopes of work, including subconsultants' performance.
  • Review requests for quotations, construction drawings, and specifications. Estimate fees and develop scopes of work for proposals.
  • Ensure contractual commitments are met and work is performed according to client instructions, industry ethical standards, and quality guidelines.
  • Oversee the materials testing laboratory and maintain required certifications for all materials testing services offered by the group.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related engineering field or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience (15+ years preferred) in a similar role.
  • PE registration preferred or FE registration with ability to sit for PE exam within 2 years.
  • Proficiency with relevant software and equipment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites, complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
