Civil Structural Engineer IICivil Structural Engineer II

Job Summary:
Performs assignments requiring application of engineering education, training or and experience. Also requires special knowledge of the mathematical, physical, or engineering sciences under the close supervision of a Professional Engineer. Assignments will be designed to further develop the Engineer's job knowledge and abilities.
Job Responsibilities:
All work is performed under the supervision of a Licensed or Professional Engineer. Other duties may be assigned.
Since advancement is based on progressive experience and knowledge, the Civil/Structural Engineer II must necessarily be able to perform all functions of a Civil/Structural Engineer I.
- Applies engineering principles in discipline of competency, as assigned by supervisor with some direction.
- Prepare material specifications for specific components.
- Prepares advanced sketches and calculations for a specific segment of a project.
- Assists in the development of technical specifications.
- Evaluates vendor bids and drawings to assure compliance with specifications.
- Visits vendor facilities to inspect structures and relevant equipment for compliance with requirements and existing drawings, and to evaluate the site, project requirements, and conditions.
- Interfaces with other disciplines and Clients.
- Prepare Material Take-offs on civil/structural items.
- Review vendor drawings and steel fabrication drawings.
- Develop a focus on least cost and safe design for civil/structural systems.
- Maintains continued awareness of project schedule and budget.
Job Qualifications:
- Must possess the minimum of a BS in civil or structural engineering from an accredited university. Engineer must have 2-5 years of progressive experience in the field of Civil/Structural Engineering, preferably in the petrochemical industry.
- Engineer must already have attained the EI certification and must be making plans to sit for the PE examination.

Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos, all in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to comprehend and complete testing for Safety Orientations through either written, verbal or computer interaction, as required by tester.
Computer Skills
Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Word and Excel software. Ability to use basic engineering software programs, such as STAAD or RISA, is required. Familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus, but not mandatory.
Reasoning Abilities
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Must possess problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issued involving multiple variables.

The noise level in the industrial workplace can be loud. The Engineer must exercise caution and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as specified by CDI and the Clients, to ensure their own safety and the safety of their co-workers..
