BRIDGE PRACTICEMichael Baker International has addressed bridge design, construction, and preservation challenges with innovative and sustainable solutions. Exemplifying its depth and versatility in the bridge space, Michael Baker International, ranked Number Five by Engineering News-Record in its annual ranking of Bridge Design Firms in the United States, has partnered with clients on a full spectrum of bridge types-from conventional grade separations to major, complex river crossings, including trusses, arches, box girders and cable-stayed bridges. DESCRIPTIONThis position offers the opportunity to live and work in the great weather, mountains, and outdoor playground of Utah, and be an integral part of the Salt Lake City Michael Baker engineering team. Our team has been and is currently designing UDOT’s largest projects, from the Mountain View Corridor highway, the critical widening and reconstruction of the urban core of I-15, the Bangerter highway interchanges, to the I80/215 project currently under construction. Our multi-discipline team works together to deliver the complete package of roadway, drainage, traffic, structures, and utilities. Our team is also executing these projects using cloud hosted Model Based Design and Construction (MBDC) techniques, the most innovative design and construction delivery method in the transportation industry today. Under limited supervision, plan, design and analyze data on civil engineering projects such as bridges, retaining walls, and drainage structures.
- Openly share technical knowledge and mentor and supervise engineers in assignments such as preparing studies, reports and supporting documentation; quantities and construction cost estimates; and construction drawings needed for Bridge projects.
- Ability to lead and interact with multi-disciplined teams.
- Present in both oral and written format.
- Provide quality control, QC/QA for bridge project of simple and complex nature
- Prepare moderately complex studies, construction documents, drawings, reports, details and supporting documentation.
- Prepare quantities and construction costs estimates using UDOT procedures.
- Prepare detailed and complex reports detailing inspections, tests conducted and results.
- Prepare construction drawings needed for UDOT and Local Agency construction of bridges.
- Communicate with clients regarding project issues, hold and attends meetings.
- Conduct project meetings.
- Prepare defining scope of work and man-hour requirements.
- Assist and prepare proposal and implement marketing initiatives.
- Support and initiate marketing efforts.
- Monitor and maintain task budgets and schedules.
- Occasional to moderate travel may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with concentration in the structural/transportation engineering field.
- 4-8 years of relevant experience.
- Utah Professional Engineers license, or ability to obtain in 6 months.
- Knowledge of UDOT design standards and procedure is a must
- Proficient in bridge design softwares, including but not limited to:
- Microstation
- LEAP products
- AASHTOWare Bridge Rating
- MIDAS – 3D modeling/analysis
- A background in business development, proposal writing, networking and strong listener of client’s needs
- The ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, and effectively participate as part of an engineering team is critical.
COMPENSATIONThe salary range for this position is $72,000 – 108,000 This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate. BENEFITSWe offer a comprehensive benefits package including:
