Job Description

Founded to be humane and excellent, we collaborate with our clients and partners using imagination and technology to shape a better world.We are looking for a Concrete Materials Specialist to join our Advanced Technology and Research (AT + R) team. We are looking for someone who can be our regional expert on concrete materials and technology, supported by other practitioners in the region and a global network of experts.The mix of work will include specialist advice on durability design, concrete technology, low carbon concrete strategies, problem investigation, specification writing and review, and much more. You will be encouraged to pursue relevant research projects, including in partnership with industry and/or academia. Your involvement will vary from a brief phone conversation to being an integral part of the project team and may require occasional overseas travel. You will be exposed to a variety of projects, applications and construction types.You will have the opportunity and will be encouraged to develop expertise in particular areas of concrete and related materials to suit your interests and to complement existing expertise within the team. The position will also provide the opportunity to develop your technical, project management, asset management and business development skills.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Demonstrable interest in concrete construction and desire to specialize in this area
  • Knowledge of concrete technology and proficiency with relevant USA and Canadian standards
  • Knowledge of concrete durability design strategies
  • Knowledge of sustainability impacts of concrete over its lifecycle, low carbon concrete, alternative cementitious materials, embodied carbon reduction strategies and related performance impacts
  • Knowledge of related materials and products, e.g. reinforcing technologies, waterproofing, admixtures and additives
  • Good report writing and presentational skills
  • Willingness to engage with standards committees and technical groups from the American Concrete Institute, ASTM, AASHTO, CSA, or similar
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, e.g., site visits

Qualifications:

  • At least a master’s degree in a relevant subject, such as civil, structural or materials engineering
  • Minimum three years relevant industry experience
  • Relevant doctorate degree preferred but not essential

Desirable skills and knowledge:

  • Practical knowledge of concrete condition assessment and repair
  • Supply chain experience or experience in material R&D
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and experience on a construction site
  • Knowledge in 3D concrete printing or other advanced construction methods
  • Knowledge of or interest in other materials and their use in the built environment, such as glass, stone, metals or ceramics

NYC hiring range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York City is $87,100 to $113,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary.
