Job Description

PLANNING PRACTICEWe create, integrate, visualize and communicate planning concepts as they move from the initial vision through implementation. At Michael Baker International, we focus on people and places, improving communities and creating more sustainable, convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient, and attractive places. DESCRIPTIONMichael Baker International seeks a motivated Intern to join our growing Planning Group in Baltimore, Maryland.  We are looking for an energetic, talented, and technically oriented planner to support the completion of projects providing multimodal planning services, travel demand modeling, traffic studies, and technical analyses using big data sources.  The ideal candidate will:

  • Provide direct technical support to project managers on a wide range of planning projects.
  • Have ability to use ESRI products for GIS mapping.
  • Conduct research and prepare analytical reports.
  • Perform technical analyses utilizing database and spreadsheet software.
  • Develop clear and concise written plans, presentations, and reports.
  • Have ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and assess priorities as needed.
  • Look to constantly expand their technical and professional knowledge and experience.
  • Thrive in a team environment while also exercising independent initiative and judgment.
  • Possess familiarity with travel demand modeling software, i.e. TransCAD or CUBE/Voyager.
  • Possess outstanding organizational and technical writing ability, as well as excellent oral   communication skills.

 PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursuing Bachelors or Masters’ degree in Planning, Engineering, Environmental, Geography or related fields
  • 2-3 years of college experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Experience with GIS and programming language (VB. and Python) preferred
  • Familiar w/ technical tools and software
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

 COMPENSATION
The hourly range for this position is $15 - $30/hr. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
