You’re encouraged to have a growth mindset and are given the space to develop personally and professionally, building a flexible career that works for you.  Role description: We currently have the opportunity for Assistant Civil Engineers to join our Civils and Structures team in our York office working on interesting and challenging rail and buildings projects. As a key member of the team, you will apply and develop your engineering skills whilst producing excellent designs for our Rail clients. You will be a key technical team member in the Rail Eastern design team, responsible for and involved in the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, time-frame and quality targets, meeting or exceeding client expectations. We will provide professional and personal development which will allow you to progress your career towards chartered status. We will offer you the opportunity to be mentored by industry recognised Technical Leaders who will lend you their experience and ensure that the training you receive will give you the best possible chance of success. Other benefits include membership fees to join your relevant professional body, employer contribution pension scheme, flexible working and a flexible holiday scheme. Role accountabilities: As an Assistant Civil Engineer you will provide design delivery on a variety of structural and civil engineering led multi-disciplinary projects mainly within the Rail environment, but also within the buildings sector. As we operate in a diverse marketplace, you will gain an experience of working on a wide and varied portfolio of projects which will enhance your skills and test your technical knowledge. 

  • Collaborate with other team members to deliver project requirements
  • Develop an understanding of the business benefits derived from the presence of Global Design and build working relationships with Global Design colleagues
  • Work as a project resource, completing allocated activities to meet budget, timeframe and quality objectives and meeting or exceeding client expectations
  • Apply analytical and design skills as well as technical writing skills at a project level
  • Deliver work that meet client and Arcadis requirements
  • Operate as a competent professional within a single area of work with little supervision
  • Capable of independently performing routine and some non-routine tasks
  • Make technical decisions that are limited to solution rather than end results
  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tasks.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, reports and other project documentation ensuring accuracy and compliance with Arcadis requirements and relevant national standards and codes of practice
  • An understanding of the design of individual elements of a project and how it ultimately interfaces with the client
  • Support investigations and analyses to support the development of technical solutions
  • Contribute to the resolution of technical issues on projects

 Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Degree in Civil or Structural engineering
  • Relevant experience preferably structural design and civil engineering in a rail environment
  • Ability to work closely with design team members and independently
  • Experience in the use of Autodesk or Bentley CAD software
  • Able to build and maintain good working relationships with other internal engineering teams
  • Working toward Incorporated or Chartered Status of a relevant institution
