Co-op assignments begin in mid-May and require a commitment to work full-time through late November/early December. Summer internships are only available to those who have previously completed a Co-op with SME.We're looking for a few Infrastructure Co-ops for the 2023 construction season! Your Co-op experience begins with an orientation/training period of several weeks followed by on-the-job training with full-time SME Team Members. You will get exposure to a wide variety of construction techniques and projects. You will also have the opportunity to work and interact directly with construction managers, contractors, and design professionals at construction sites. You'll have real responsibility!Description of Position ResponsibilitiesThe work will involve supporting the Infrastructure Group with pavement evaluations, design and field construction quality control activities. Assisting our engineering staff in performing pavement evaluations including field visits for survey verification, pavement/soil sampling, utility information collection/confirmation, and site evaluations. You may also have the opportunity to work with our Geoprobe operator to perform pavement sampling. Assisting in and developing plans using CADD and performing site verification and quantity take offs. You will gain valuable experience in pavements, soils and construction materials evaluations, and will work closely with the team, the client and contractors to ensure adherence to specifications, provide updates and bulletins to project plans during construction and assist with project punch lists and closeouts.Technical Skills Required
- To be considered, you must have a good driving record and must be able to comfortably lift and carry equipment and samples weighing up to approximately 50 - 60 pounds.
- A valid drivers license, experience driving in the U.S. and a good driving record.
