The Role
BGC is seeking an Intermediate Hydrogeologist or Hydrogeological Engineer with a background in mining, construction, or engineering. The successful applicant will support a long-term mining client with ongoing hydrogeological and mine-closure services. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of approximately 50 hydrogeologists, hydrogeological engineers, and geochemists working on mining, pipelines, and linear infrastructure projects across North America. Our mining projects span all phases of the mining life cycle and typically involve collaboration with dynamic, multi-disciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will be keen to advance their technical expertise, will work closely with a tight-knit project team, and will provide mentorship to junior engineers and geoscientists pursuing careers in hydrogeology. This position can be based at any of BGC’s Canadian office locations.
Responsibilities

  • Act as technical lead of small to medium-sized scopes that may include regulatory groundwater monitoring, hydrogeological site investigations, design projects, operation of a groundwater pump-back system, mine closure, and reporting.
  • Manage projects including scope development and proposals, budgets, schedules, staffing, contractor management, etc..
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff in the field and office
  • Plan, organize, and execute field and office-based scopes while regularly communicating with clients and contractors.
  • Some travel will be required to support junior team members, gain familiarity with project sites, and serve our clients


Required Education, Experience & Competencies

  • Graduate degree in hydrogeology, geology, geological engineering, hydrogeological engineering or related discipline.
  • 6 to 12 years of relevant professional experience; consulting experience preferred.
  • Registered professional, P.Geo. or P.Eng., with PEO, PGO, or similar association.
  • An understanding of physical hydrogeology and geology, preferably with practical field experience in borehole logging, monitoring well installation, and hydraulic testing and analysis.
  • Experience in mine site water management, mine dewatering and depressurization, site investigation and characterization, tailings and water storage dam design and seepage control, permitting and environmental impact assessments.
  • Past project experience would ideally include the range of mine life, from pre-feasibility through operations and closure/remediation.
  • Fundamental understanding of hydrogeology as it applies to mining and tailings management.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills. Able to communicate with clients and appreciate their project goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiar with operating mine-sites and mine-closure planning and execution.
  • Proficient in technical writing; able to present, prepare and review reports.
  • Self-starter with a keen desire to contribute to technical excellence in a “One Team” environment.


Desired Education, Experience & Competencies

  • Familiarity with geochemistry and water quality is an asset
  • Familiarity with groundwater modelling software (e.g., SEEP/W, MODFLOW) is an asset
  • Familiarity with Golden Software Surfer program is an asset
  • Familiarity with Berkley Vista Data Vision (VDV) software is an asset


Position Requirements

This testing could be requested within an employee’s first week or in the future, as required. Driver’s LicenseBGC requires that employees have a valid driver's license, and that employees can drive a field pickup truck.  Upon hiring, BGC will require a driver’s abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.
