Job Description

  GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking a motivated Project Manager to join our Marine/Waterfront practice in the New England region. This position could be based out of our Providence, RIPortland, METrumbull CT; or Amesbury, MA office location.

The ideal candidate is a consulting Professional Engineer with versatility, experience, and interest in structural and geotechnical aspects of shoreline and nearshore waterfront structures. The successful candidate will foster technical excellence, possess strong client relationships, and embrace external networking and marketing activities. A strong technical background and a professional demeanor are required.

As a Project Manager in GZA’s waterfront group, you will work on a wide variety of civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering projects related to the waterfront with particular emphasis on marine geo-structural projects such as port terminals, marinas, piers, bulkheads, and shoreline protection.  Under GZA’s One Company approach, you will work with dedicated engineers, managers, and principals across GZA and across disciplines. You will be responsible for all aspects of projects from the proposal stage through completion, as well as the day-to-day performance of technical and financial aspects of projects. Participation in marketing activities and networking events and actively mentoring more junior level engineers is expected. At GZA, Project Managers have ownership opportunities with the firm and the potential for advancement to principal levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing project team, delegating work to office and field staff, and executing day-to-day project needs
  • Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients and team members
  • Monitoring and managing project compliance with contractual agreements and budgets, including terms of agreement, changes in scope, and billing process
  • Conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations for the design and construction of piers, bulkheads, berthing and mooring structures, and shore protection structures
  • Supporting the development of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, bid documents.
  • Preparing and reviewing condition survey reports and other written project reports
  • Participating in meetings and agency consultation
  • Providing business development support including preparing proposals
  • Managing and mentoring GZA existing staff of project-level engineers
  • Working on multidisciplinary project teams
  • Perform additional job related duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • 8+ years of consulting waterfront design engineering experience including condition surveys, design, environmental regulatory permitting, and contract construction documents
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations related to waterfront projects
  • Self-starter, able to complete tasks with minimal supervision and direction
  • Strong professional judgment, consistency, attention to detail, and background for delivering high-quality work products
  • Innovative problem solving with strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to safety
  • PE license Required
