  Knight Piésold is hiring an Intermediate Civil/Structural Engineer at our beautiful downtown Vancouver office. Our professional staff develop their skills through working on diverse projects and collaborating with top professionals in the industry while benefiting from Knight Piésold’s strong knowledge-sharing culture and mentoring program.The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering with Professional Engineer registration in BC (or eligibility for future registration). A minimum of five years of applicable engineering experience in hydropower and dams is required, and the successful candidate must be able to effectively work and communicate within multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will embrace both office and site-work opportunities on domestic and international projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Above all, we are looking for someone who is responsible and a good team player with a great attitude.Key skills and responsibilities for the position include:

  • Providing technical support to the design team including civil design, structural analysis, conceptual and detailed design drawings, and reporting. Relevant experience would preferably be related to the structural design of hydraulic structures, dams, intake structures, pipelines, penstocks, pump stations, and powerhouses for the hydropower and mining sectors. Working experience in FE software such as ANSYS, Stand7, and SAP2000 or similar is essential. Experience with AutoCAD and hydraulic design would be regarded as significant assets
  • Using initiative and judgement, develop safe solutions including engineering designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications on projects and/or operations.
  • Participating in site visits and inspections, which could include reviewing shop drawings, preparing field reports, and developing field instruction memos.
  • Working and communicating effectively with teams of engineers, designers, and drafters.
