We are committed to solving the world’s biggest challenges in the areas of water, energy and urbanization.The candidate will join a growing team as a Geotechnical Technical Director ready to act as a technical leader in the Dams and Hydropower market for the US West region. The primary function of this role will be to provide technical direction and oversight of the regional dams and hydropower geotechnical staff. The ideal candidate is a motivated, self starter, capable of providing the technical oversight on dams design and rehabilitation, spillway design, penstock stability analysis, conveyance replacement projects etc. This candidate will have the desire to develop clients and help foster growth in the Dams & Hydropower Group for GHD in the US West.Responsibilities:Your primary role as the Dams and Hydropower Geotechnical Technical Director will require:

  • Time management skills, including preparation of budgets, work programs, proposals, tenders, technical submissions and reports
  • A commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe workplace
  • The ability to oversee and direct technical work by others, including quality assurance reviews of construction documents
  • Contribution to the preparation of successful proposals to clients
  • Strong technical leadership in geotechnical engineering projects as it pertains to dams and hydropower
  • Delivering successful project outcomes
  • Ability to supervise staff members under the same discipline, including conducting performance reviews, providing mentorship, reviewing weekly timecards and key performance indicators (KPI's), providing constructive feedback regarding staff performance
  • Active participation in client relationship management, business development, development of proposals, reports and technical analysis

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering, with increasing experience in dams and hydropower over the last 10 years
  • Licensed GE, in the state of CA or a licensed PE with the means to obtain license in 6 months
  • Developed skills and understanding of dam design or rehabilitation and hydropower structures like conveyance, spillways, penstocks, etc.
  • Experience supervising a team of engineers
  • Successful development and growth of strong client relationships
