Overview:   SUMMIT Engineering, Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) Company has an opening in our Construction Services Department. UES is a nationwide leader in Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and Inspection, Building Code Compliance, Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety, and Building Envelope.
Build your future as a Foundations Field Technician (FTG) at SUMMIT Engineering, Laboratory & Testing, Inc., A Universal Engineering Sciences Company. As one of the fastest growing engineering firms in the nation, we’re looking for bold new talent to grow along with us. No experience? Not a problem! We believe in the value of hard work. If you’re known for your unmatched work ethic, reliability, and willingness to work in a team, you have the foundation needed and we would like to hear from you.   Position Summary:   As a Foundations (FTG) Field Technician, you will be responsible for various construction materials testing on active construction jobsites or collection of relevant test data on future or existing projects. You will become an expert in collecting foundation samples and conducting field and/or laboratory testing on subsurface conditions.  With projects ranging from complex roadway construction to single-family residential communities, you will gain the knowledge and experience necessary to take your skills to the next level.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Travel to various job sites in a company provided vehicle
    • Collect samples and conduct routine field and/or laboratory testing on subsurface conditions for foundations, roadways and other surfaces using field equipment
    • Review blueprints and perform field work such as construction layout for foundations footings
    • Conduct Residential Subgrade Verifications – evaluation of the bearing capacity of soils within an excavated footing to verify the soils are suitable to support the recommended, allowable design bearing pressure, usually prior to foundations being poured
    • Complete Residential Slab Compaction Evaluations – evaluation of the compaction of materials placed within slap areas, usually prior to slabs being poured
    • Conduct Residential Preliminary Subsurface Evaluations – testing performed to get a general idea of the soil bearing capacity within the top five feet below the existing ground surface prior to foundation excavation
    • Complete Registered Design Professional (RDF) Inspections – evaluation of the construction of foundations or slabs in accordance with approved construction documents provided by the builders.  This is performed prior to pouring the foundation or slab, which could eliminate the need for a footing inspection before concrete is poured
    • Perform Deep Foundation Layouts – provide engineered layouts for alternative foundation types if soil conditions are not deemed suitable to support a typical shallow foundation including: timber pile, drilled caisson and helical pier supported foundations
    • Observe, document and complete accurate and detailed daily field activity and/or diagrams
    • Report all findings to clients and supervisors
    • Communicate verbally and electronically daily with various field personnel and colleagues
    • Other duties as assigned
