The RoleBGC is seeking an experienced Geotechnical or Geological Engineer to be part of our growing team in the US. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering consulting and will have technical expertise and project management experience in one or more of the primary sectors in which BGC works. These include the pipeline, transportation and mining sectors, and expertise may include site investigation, geohazard assessment, geotechnical design, and construction quality assurance. Candidates with experience in geohazard characterization and mitigation in the pipeline and transportation industry would be especially well suited for this role. Some exposure to geohazard management and risk-informed decision making would be desirable. The suitable candidate will work in multi-disciplinary teams, leading tasks related to the full cycle of geotechnical design and construction. The ideal candidate will also have a desire to work with our global team and to contribute to projects outside of the Eastern US while helping develop our client-base in line with BGC’s strategic direction. The ideal candidate will be interested in providing technical leadership, excellent client service, and advancing innovative practice while practicing our core values of One Team, Excellence, Curiosity, Common Sense, and Clarity. The position is not limited to Pittsburgh, PA. The candidate should be located in the Appalachian Region of the Eastern US. Ideal locations include, but are not limited to Pittsburgh, PA; Cincinnati or Columbus, OH; Lexington, KY; or other location to be determined. Regular travel to other BGC offices and project locations will be required. The candidate will support the establishment of a new office and would be expected to be located (either currently or willing to relocate) to help establish the new office. The candidate could potentially serve as the office manager with time and may assist or lead management of a team of BGC staff within that office and those who work remotely throughout the Eastern US.
Responsibilities
- Act as a project engineer and technical lead for specific aspects of pipeline, transportation, or mining projects
- Manage projects, prepare proposals, and track budgets
- Travel as required, which could occasionally include extended shifts at remote sites
- Organize and supervise field programs, including: geohazard site investigation, geohazard mitigation design and construction monitoring
- Author or co-author reports
- Train, mentor, and supervise technical work of Junior staff
- Work with client and partner representatives
- Help establish a new BGC office and contribute to recruiting efforts for junior and intermediate staff
- Manage staffing and schedules for staff within the office and those who work remotely in the Eastern US
- Travel to other BGC offices on occasion to foster team connectivity and participate in business development and planning initiatives
- Help promote BGC vision, values and culture amongst BGC staff
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
- Greater than 10 years relevant work experience
- Post-graduate degree in Geological, Geotechnical, or Civil Engineering
- Registered (or eligible for registration) as a professional engineer (PE)
- Leadership, analytical and project management skills
- Excellent communication skills

Driver’s LicenseBGC requires that employees have a valid driver's license, and that employees can drive a field pickup truck. Upon hiring, BGC will require a driver’s abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history.
