We are committed to solving the world’s biggest challenges in the areas of water, energy and urbanization.GHD is looking for an Intermediate to Senior Geotechnical Engineer with a strong background in managing geotechnical investigations and solving geotechnical problems, and who is a motivated team player and leader, to join our team in Vancouver, BC. You will play a key technical role in a wide variety of Transportation, Water and Energy infrastructure projects in British Columbia and across the globe via the One GHD unique approach for a broad diversity of clients from proposal to delivery stages.The successful candidate will have the following experience:
- Geotechnical and geostructural engineering analysis and design
- Senior preparation and reviews of technical proposals, estimates and reports
- Manage, coordinate and conduct a wide variety of geotechnical investigations and geotechnical designs related but not limited to transportation, water, energy, civil municipal, commercial and residential development, resource industries, utilities, and building structures
- Support business development and client maintenance through preparation of proposals and preparing peer-reviewed technical papers to promote GHD work
- Mentor junior and field staff in the development of proposals, technical analysis and design, reports and all design and construction documentation.
- To provide expertise and support for geotechnical engineering aspects of projects throughout the design, tendering, and construction stages including:
- Static and dynamic soil-structure interaction analyses;
- Advanced stress-strain deformation and settlement analyses;
- Geostructural design numerical analysis including complex soil and rock constitutive models and structural elements components;
- Geotechnical and geostructural foundations design (shallow, raft and deep piles, drilled shaft, caissons, etc.) for all sorts of small to large scale structures including buildings, bridges, embankments, transmission tower, wind tower, etc.;
- Soil improvement technics design such as CMC, micro-piles, dynamic compaction, vibro methods, etc.;
- Shoring and excavation support for temporary shafts and basement excavation and permanent underground access;
- Tunnelling and trenchless works in all types of soil and rock conditions, NATM geostructural design);
- Engineered fills and MSE/Soil Nail walls systems;
- Construction groundwater control/dewatering requirements;
- Slope stability and embankment assessments;
- Dams and ponds.
Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
- University graduate with degree in geotechnical, geological or civil (geotechnical) engineering
- Possess EGBC registration (P.Eng. license)
- Minimum 8 to 15 years of experience in Geotechnical/Geostructural engineering field, at least 2 of those years in consulting engineering in British Columbia
- Experience with Detailed Design, Design Build and Owner’s Engineer Technical Advisor role;
- Geotechnical seismic design including site specific response analysis, liquefaction analysis, fully coupled dynamic soil-structure interaction analysis and geostructural foundation design
- Capability in numerical modelling using Plaxis, RS2/3, FLAC, Group/LPile, DeepX and other advanced capable geotechnical and geostructural software suites
- Proficiency with current geotechnical software applications including GeoStudio (Slope/W, Sigma/W, etc.) and Rocscience (Slide2/3, Settle3)
- Good knowledge of national and international regulations (codes and standards) and technical references in geotechnical, geostructural, dams and tunnelling design for different types of infrastructure
- Ability to lead and cooperate with a team in various environments, as well as work independently
- Strong written and oral communication (English) skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong analytical/technical, and report writing skills
- Desire to provide excellent practical client service and a commitment to technical excellence
- Must be well organized, have the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, deliver on time and on budget
- In addition to demonstrated supervisory experience, knowledge of regional markets, agencies, and local geotechnical conditions
- Valid Driver’s License
