Join a team that has the environment down to a science.Your OpportunityStantec is seeking a scientist, geologist, or environmental engineer to support our team of environmental professionals. The position will assist in the completion of project level work to support environmental investigation and remediation and due diligence projects. Primary responsibilities will be related to performing key tasks to support field implementation of assessment plans.Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and document field data collection activities (including oversight of subcontractors)
  • Assist in the completion of project level work (data management, report preparation) on environmental remediation/management projects for commercial/industrial clients
  • Conduct multi-media sampling (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, indoor air)
  • Oversee advancement of soil and rock borings, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, manage subcontractors and minor soil excavation projects
  • Prepare soil boring log and well construction diagrams
  • Support and conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
  • Learn and follow standard operating procedures for work assigned
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze field and technical data
  • Technical report support including data entry/validation, figure preparation, and QA/QC
  • Complete applicable company and client required health & safety training (including OSHA required training) and follow health & safety policies and procedures
  • Work will be conducted under the supervision of a project manager or a field team leader
  • Ability to travel and conduct field work in potentially remote areas for extended periods, up to 70% within the U.S., including overnight travel is expected for this position. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Typical office environment working with computers.

QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsThe ideal candidate will have:

  • 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
  • The ability to effectively communicate project status to project manager and appropriate staff
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented, have exceptional field note-taking skills, have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills (including MS Office), basic understanding of technical writing skills, combined with the ability and flexibility to work in a dynamic, challenging and fast paced environment
  • Experience conducting work under the regulatory authority of the Illinois EPA a plus
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required
  • Prior to employment this position will require the successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Working knowledge of field sampling techniques

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in geology/hydrogeology, environmental science, engineering, or related field.
  • 0-3 years of environmental consulting industry experience
