Join a team that has the environment down to a science.Your OpportunityStantec Consulting Services, LLC (Stantec) is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to join its solid waste practice in Minneapolis, MN or Fargo, ND. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for high quality and client focused work product is essential. The ability and willingness to travel and do field work is a necessity. As a key member of the team, you will support existing solid waste and environmental projects using a strong foundation in quantitative hydrogeology.Your Key Responsibilities

  • Managing projects that focus on groundwater resources management, including:
  • Hydrogeologic investigations
  • Well design, technical specifications, and oversight of drilling, construction, development, and testing
  • Permitting for solid waste facilities
  • Groundwater modeling evaluations
  • Conceptual model development for complex aquifers and systems with surface water / groundwater interactions
  • Directing, training, mentoring, and partnering with junior staff
  • Interacting with and managing relationships with clients and other project stakeholders, including regulatory agencies
  • Developing and/or capitalizing on business opportunities
  • Overseeing adherence with health and safety regulations
  • Preparing technical proposals, work plans, and reports

QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong understanding of geology, physical hydrogeology, surface and subsurface hydrogeology
  • Professional experience with various media (e.g., soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water and sediment) investigations, data assessments and evaluations
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a project team
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-sufficient and ability to work under pressure of deadlines
  • Knowledge of general geologic concepts including map contouring, stratigraphy, aquifer testing, hydrologic monitoring, and soil classification
  • Experience with well design fundamentals, construction materials, applications as well as drilling and installation
  • Experience with groundwater modeling with MODFLOW and other numerical models
  • Must be able to oversee and work with assigned field technicians and subcontractors (e.g., drillers, construction workers, surveyors, etc.) while performing field work
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze water quantity and quality data
  • Ability to work overtime (as needed) in both office and field, and periodic travel (travel out-of-town and potentially out-of-state overnight travel may be required).
  • Experience navigating regulatory requirements and negotiating with regulatory agencies is an asset for this position
  • Must be able to make trips to local sites, and travel via air or land to other client sites
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Word™, Microsoft Excel™, and Adobe Acrobat Professional™
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification or the ability to attain this certification
  • Candidates should be self-motivated, and possess strong time management, communication, and organization skills.
  • On the technical side, candidates will need to demonstrate proficiency with standard analytical approaches and tools and have a clear understanding of how to apply hydrogeologic principles to characterize and assess the sustainability of groundwater systems.

Education and Experience

  • 8 years of experience (experience in the solid waste field desired)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, or related field
  • Licensed Professional Geologist
  • Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
