We approach problems with creativity and innovation.  The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing practice to support our existing client base and growing market sectors. Much of our historic geotechnical workload in Columbia has been with Federal agencies (i.e. Corps, NAVFAC, etc), design-build contractors working for Federal agencies, and major industrial clients throughout the US; our Market Pursuit areas include Infrastructure/Transportation and Power & Energy.  Experience in those markets and with those client types is preferred.Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop geotechnical engineering scope of services and fee estimates for complex landside and waterfront projects
  • Planning and oversight of field investigations/inspections
  • Perform or review engineering design analyses and calculations
  • Preparation or review of recommendations, reports and designs, including deep foundation and ground improvement projects
  • Perform project management activities including communicating resource needs, planning and delegating work, management of project budgets, invoicing and backlog reporting
  • Manage client relationships and business development opportunities
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers, commensurate with experience level

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required, Master’s in Geotechnical engineering preferred
  • Minimum 8+ years of professional geotechnical or related engineering experience
  • Existing Professional Engineering licensing
  • AutoCAD skills suitable for developing deliverables
  • Proficiency with typical geotechnical engineering analysis software such as LPILE, APILE and SHAFT, GeoStudio, Settle3D and FoSSA.
  • Proficiency in liquefaction evaluations
  • Ability to multi-task  
  • Effective time management and interpersonal skills

Other Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status (no visa sponsorship provided)
  • Ability to be physically able to negotiate construction sites
  • Ability to perform field work and travel, both US and overseas, as needed
  • Ability to pass a background check for Federal facility access which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
