Job Description

We are committed to solving the world’s biggest challenges in the areas of water, energy and urbanization.Our Calgary, Alberta office is looking for a Senior Terrestrial Biologist -Team Leader of Alberta Operations to join our growing Canadian Team.GHD is looking for a motivated and experienced biologist who is passionate about biology, the outdoors and maintains an active outdoor lifestyle. The Team Leader of Alberta Operations will be an important team position of our Canada west natural sciences team. This role is a combination of team leadership, technical support and project management while collaborating and supporting projects locally, nationally and internationally. This is a full-time position with opportunities for advancement and partnership.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement field programs
  • Lead field teams and prepare technical reports
  • Conduct or support field work
  • Develop and submit environmental permits – both provincial and federal
  • Develop and manage project budgets
  • Conduct business development and liaise with clients
  • Mentor team staff and provide leadership
  • Maintain an active lifestyle

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor degree in biology or similar (ecology or natural resource management)
  • Graduate degree is an asset
  • 7+ years of biology related work experience with most experience weighted towards vegetation, wetland and terrestrial ecosystems
  • Must be a professional biologist with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists
  • Experience leading and managing teams
  • Experienced vegetation and wetland ecologist
  • Data compilation and interpretation, evaluation of environmental regulations, preparation of environmental reports, and regulatory submissions
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Work independently and supervise staff
  • Experience building budgets and managing projects
  • Must have experience with provincial and federal permitting and experience leading and conducting environmental assessments.
