Job Description

  Draper Aden Associates is currently seeking a Field Technician for our Geotechnical and Construction Services Division in our Richmond, VA office. Position Overview:   As a Field Technician for our Geotechnical and Construction Services Division, you’ll be part of a highly trained and experienced team that performs observations and testing during earthwork and construction of commercial, institutional, landfill, and industrial projects. Responsibilities include construction monitoring and testing of soil, concrete, and other materials.This position requires long term standing and perhaps repetitive motions. You must have the ability to use your hands to handle; reach, climb or balance; crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit. You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day, or stay out of town during the week. Lifting – You will regularly lift/move/shake up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60-80 pounds. This position is non-exempt under FLSA. Some weekend and overtime work may be required with this position. Job Duties:

  • The fundamental job duties of this position include:  
  • Field observation and testing of soil, concrete and other construction materials
  • Communicate with contractors and managers regarding project status and requirements
  • Assist with laboratory testing programs under oversight of Professional Engineer for evaluating soil properties
  • Complete site visit reports daily  

 Preferred Training, Experience, Education, and/or Skills:  

  • Ability to read construction plans
  • Ability to become proficient at using firm’s field testing equipment, including nuclear gauge, and other equipment;
  • Ability to prepare accurate daily field reports and meet required deadlines for completion;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • A flexible working style and an ability to work independently and with teams;
  • Strong analytical and judgment capabilities;
  • Valid Driver’s License;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
  • ACI certification or VDOT soils and aggregate certification preferred
