Job Description

They work across the project and tunnel lifecycle, developing award-winning solutions from feasibility and planning through to design and construction support.Working with the Technical Director – Tunnels and Underground Spaces, this position plays a key technical role, and will see you involved in a balance of technical work, project management, business development and mentoring:- 

  • Provide specialised technical services to clients on a diverse range of projects
  • Technically lead a range of tunnel and underground space projects
  • Tunnel engineering design, including TBM and mined tunnels in hard rock and soft ground conditions
  • Permanent and temporary underground design structure
  • Oversee the production of design deliverables including drawings, specifications and reports
  • Involvement in geotechnical and tunnel engineering risk assessments
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and across GHD - Mentor, motivate and support junior members of the group.

What you will bring to the team

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in project planning, investigation, design, and detailing tunnelling projects,
  • Strong technical background, including in rock mechanics and design and analysis using relevant software packages
  • Design of Tunnel and Cavern support systems, including rock bolting, shotcrete and insitu linings, segmental pre-cast linings and other support systems
  • Shaft support techniques in both soil and rock environments
  • Microtunnelling experience in the investigation, planning and delivery of microtunnelling solutions for water, waste water or utility projects
  • Tunnel construction experience
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely
  • The ability to communicate openly and build relationships with peers and clients
  • Relevant tertiary qualification Postgraduate qualifications will be favourably considered.
  • Chartered status (eg CPEng, RPEQ) is highly desirable and if not, conscientiously working towards achieving it
