Job Description


GeoDesign’s Seattle office is seeking a Geotechnical Staff Engineer II. Our firm is an NV5 Company and provides a full range of geotechnical engineering, environmental, geological, pavement, and mining consulting services. Companywide, GeoDesign’s team includes more than 75 dedicated engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, technical staff, and support personnel, but we are part of a more than 2,500 person firm offering vast opportunities nationwide. NV5 is a provider of engineering and consulting services to public and private sector clients, delivering solutions through six business verticals: Testing, Inspection & Consulting; Infrastructure; Utility Services; Environmental Health Sciences; Buildings & Program Management; and Geospatial Technology.   • Geotechnical construction observation and documentation earthwork, foundations, shoring, Crosshole Sonic logging technician (perform CSL tests of drilled shafts).
  • Manage field investigation and obtain permits.
  • Subsurface exploration drilling and test pits and infiltration testing.
  • Geotechnical engineering analyses and design related to a variety of projects including municipal infrastructure, buildings, retaining walls, pavements, fill embankments, slope stability.
  • Geotechnical engineering analyses.
  • Geotechnical instrumentation programming and monitoring.


  • BS in Civil Engineering required, MS in Geotechnical Engineering is desirable, a minimum of 2 years of experience in field inspection and office engineering is a plus;
  • FE/EIT certification preferred;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Organized self starter;
  • Attention to detail with confident judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to follow management directions and work in a team environment;
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50 pounds regularly over difficult terrain;
  • Must be willing to work outside in Pacific NW weather conditions and available to work outside of normal working hours on long-term field assignments for construction projects;
  • Field experience with construction inspection and monitoring is preferred;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license; and, must have insured transportation for site visits with sufficient cargo space for field equipment;
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime.
