This position functions as the Aggregate Quality Specialist for MDOT and will provide sole oversight of the department's statewide Prequaified Aggregate Supplier Program. Keep records of tests and test results and have extensive technical knowledge of all pertinent testing procedures and specifications. Monitor statewide aggregate control and maintain close liaison with the regions to assure statewide uniformity in aggregate sampling, testing, and control. Provide techncial guidance to employees in the unit. Provide techncial background and expertise for resolution of laboratory problems in the areas of geology, construction aggregates, laboratory operations, the department's prequalified aggregate supplier program, and other aggregate related quality control/acceptance processes used in construction, maintenance, and preservation of roads and structures. Maintain laboratory accreditation. Maintain professional contacts with aggregate industry. Represent the department on committees, research advisory groups, and conferences. Possession of a bachelor's degree in geology, or in geological, petroleum, mining, engineering, or earth science.
Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Geologist, including two years equivalent to a Geologist P11 or one year equivalent to a Geologist 12.Additional Requirements and InformationAll newly hired state employees are required to submit and pass a pre-employment drug test and physical (if applicable) prior to their actual appointment. Criminal and driving records will also be checked if applicable. Any position offer will be conditional until results of the drug test, physical, criminal background, and driving records indicate eligibility for employment.
