DescriptionThe Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing journal entries and reconciliations for monthly general ledger close and assisting with the preparation and distribution of financial statements. This position will ensure that all information recorded in the financial statements are accurate and timely. Working in a Shared Services environment, this position will identify streamlining and cost reduction opportunities. The Senior Accountant will ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Company Standard Operating Procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities• Prepare monthly financial statements, reports and records by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information• Responsible for general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations • Analyze and interpret statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, trends and other matters impacting the effectiveness of the operations• Audit and verify documents; research and reconcile all discrepancies• Prepare information as required by auditors • Prepare assigned state and use tax, property tax, etc.• Financial and profitability analysis on a requested basis• Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting• Adhere to internal financial controls as directed by the Company’s Sarbanes-Oxley narratives, including sales journal verifications, bank, general ledger and subsidiary ledger account reconciliations, revenue testing, and other tests and procedures as required• Ensure transactions are in accordance with GAAP and internal policies and procedures are followed and communicate exceptions to management• Maintain open communication and provide assistance to team members, other departments, field sites, and leadership to ensure fluid and efficient workflow• Partner with team members in standardizing department policies, procedures, and workflows• Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential• Assist with special projects and perform other duties assigned by managemenRequirementsRequired:• Bachelor's degree in Accounting • Five (5) or more years of accounting experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: • Microsoft Office proficiency • Financial software knowledge • Knowledge of GAAP• Excellent analytical, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate clearly with team members, management, employees and external customers in an efficient and professional manner• Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity, trust, and maintain confidentiality• Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a fast-paced, team environment• Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports and associated documents• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions• Ability to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlines• Demonstrates strong business acumen and ability to work effectively across various teams and levels • Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects• Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example: two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing• Knowledge of proper lifting techniques
Preferred:• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)• Epicor software experience • Solid Waste Industry or ancillary experience
