The Heavy Civil Group provides engineering services with emphasis on investigation of deteriorated structures, repair and rehabilitation, and new design of constructed works. The ideal candidate will support the continued development of a wide array of geotechnical, geostructural, and construction engineering services within SGH. They will be expected to have a strong technical knowledge of the principles of soil mechanics to support our design, investigation, and repair work by conducting geotechnical and geostructural analyses, preparing drawings and specifications, researching technical issues, writing reports, conducting field visits, and performing construction administration activities.
Perform analyses of deep and shallow foundations, earth retaining structures, excavation support systems, soil settlement, slope stability, soil dynamics and earthquake engineering, groundwater flow and seepage, earthen embankments/dams/reservoirs, tunnels, and asphalt and concrete pavement.
Assist in the preparation of scope, schedules, and budgets for proposals.
Assist in preparing reports.
Plan, schedule, conduct and/or coordinate field and laboratory services for a wide range of project types including new design, forensic investigations, and repair/remediation.
Prepare drawings and project specifications suitable for construction.
Perform construction administration and construction monitoring duties.
Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain such within 1 year.
S. or M.E. in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical or GeoStructural Engineering.
4-8 years of engineering experience, including planning and overseeing subsurface investigations; development of design soil parameters; analysis, design and modeling of geo-structures; and construction supervision of earthworks, foundation installation and other underground works.
Proficiency with one or more geotechnical computer analysis software packages (e.g., GEOSLOPE Suite, Slide, Plaxis, LPILEplus, GRLWEAP, CIVILTech Shoring, DeepEX, Settle3D).
Strong communication skills, including report writing skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with clients in the public and private sectors.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Commitment to meet deadlines.
A valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
Willingness to travel to out-of-state project sites on occasion and ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
