Job Description:

We approach problems with creativity and innovation. Schnabel Engineering, Inc. is seeking a temporary full-time co-op student to join our Baltimore, MD office. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of and help support a strong team.

Job Responsibilities:

Assisting project managers with the design of geotechnical engineering and pavement design projects and providing support during project construction

Primary geotechnical responsibilities will include:

Defining the subsurface investigation and testing programs

Scheduling and coordination

Performing geotechnical engineering analysis

Performing foundation and pavement designs

Drafting and preparing logs and writing engineering reports

Attending meetings and field observations during construction

Some overnight travel is expected

Required Skills/Experience:

Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program. Candidates in programs with a focus on geotechnical engineering are preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task


Ability to work with direction as part of a team

Positive attitude

Strong work ethic and a desire to learn

Desire and willingness to work outdoors

Ability to routinely lift up to 40 pounds

Other Requirements:

Valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle; mileage (excluding mileage for commute) will be reimbursed based on the allowable IRS rate for travel assignments

Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check

Ability to pass a pre-employment employment drug screening
