Job Description

Position Summary

As a Field Engineer you will primarily provide technical support to our customers, both internal and external, on the product lines that make up Simpson Strong-Tie’s Concrete Construction Products group (Anchoring Systems, Composite Strengthening Systems, Cold-Formed Steel). You will use your experience, product knowledge and training to develop solutions for a wide variety of applications. You will work closely with your sales team to identify and support closing of sales opportunities. This position will work out of a home office and support portions of MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, and WV.


60% of the time you will: Provide technical support for our concrete anchoring, strengthening, and repair products to our customers and our staff. You will use your experience, product knowledge and training to develop solutions for a wide variety of applications. Establish and maintain relationships with design professionals, specifiers, and major contractors to obtain the specification of Simpson products.

30% of the time you will: Conduct technical presentations for individuals, groups and professional associations involved in new construction and/or the repair and rehabilitation of existing structures, focusing on both general technical knowledge as well as the advantages and use of Simpson products.

10% of the time you will: Work closely with our engineering and sales teams to identify opportunities and supply product solutions.


Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from a four-year college or university required.

Professional Engineer license; EIT registration may be considered for hire as an Associate Field Engineer.

2 years experience consulting engineering.

2 years experience designing concrete structures.

Construction: Practical working knowledge of common concrete and steel construction methods.

Product knowledge: General knowledge of Anchors, Strengthening Systems, and CFS (Fasteners Connectors, and Lateral System product lines a plus). General understanding of product development process from idea to launch a plus.

Customer focus: Quickly and effectively solve customer problems and maintain productive internal and external customer relationships. Readily readjust priorities to respond to pressing and changing customer needs. Recognize potentially adverse customer reactions and develop better alternatives.

Self-management: Set priorities, goals and timelines to achieve maximum productivity. Manage multiple projects and competing priorities. Display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner.

Communication: Excellent communication skills; written and verbal, proof reading, professional phone demeanor. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Enthusiastic attitude and ability to work well with others.

Teamwork: Maintain a collaborative approach in dealing with other Simpson Strong-Tie employees. Demonstrate a genuine commitment to reach mutually beneficial solutions.

Accountability and dependability: Arrive to work on time and follow instructions, policies, and procedures. Fulfill commitments made to customers, peers, co-workers, and managers. Hold self and others accountable for measureable, high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results.

Reading and writing: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond effectively to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagram form and deal with various items of abstract and/or concrete value.

Attention to detail: Monitor and review work for accuracy and completeness. Complete work according to procedures and standards. Maintain an organized workspace. Understand verbal instructions.

Computer Skills: Excellent proficiency in Microsoft software environment including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Powerpoint. Experience with AutoCAD, Dodge, Salesforce, Sharepoint, BlueBeam Revu (PDF), and Simpson Strong-Tie software & web applications a plus.

Travel Required

This job requires 40%-60% domestic travel (8 to 12 overnights per month, depending on home location).

Work Status & Location

This full-time, exempt position will be based out of a home office, preferably in Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA or New York City, NY, and will support the states of MD, NJ, NY, PA, VA, and WV.


Relocation may be considered for this position.
