Responsible for information gathering activities on survey vessels, analysis of multi-parameter data, problem solving, quality control for Marine Geophysical surveys.

Fugro has recently established the Marine Geomatics Center of Excellence at its Lafayette, Louisiana campus. The core technologies and expertise of this new group revolve around the science of deriving information about the earth's physical features without physically contacting it, known as Geophysical surveys. During such surveys photogrammetry, seismic seabed imaging and multibeam seabed mapping are some examples of sensors utilizing both surface survey vessel and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) collection platforms. In addition to existing markets, the group is focusing on "sustainability" programs, such as marine wind energy projects, which include technologies involving oceanography, environmental / climate sciences, and geotechnical seabed acquisition for analysis of the earth's physical subsurface features. Moving forward, many of the technologies being developed and assessed by Fugro involve autonomous vehicles; such as, Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASV) for maritime applications and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles UAV for the airborne applications.

 Job Responsibilities:

Organize and archive acquired data according to established standards.

Communicates with, Party Chief and project management details regarding quality and quantity of processed geophysical data.

Remain educated in software to support the flow of data from acquisition to deliverable.

Liaises with project manager to understand project specific deliverables, processing requirements and delivery time frames.

Supports the processing of all acquired data and the delivery to interpreter in format suitable for his/her use with minimum supervision.

Capable of trouble shooting of problematic data and support the communications of these problems to additional support mechanisms.

Capable of trouble shooting and assisting in solving acoustic navigation positioning issue.

Be proficient in all necessary hardware/software required to deliver data to shore.

Support software and tools aboard vessels to facilitate data archiving.

Assists in mobilization and demobilization of surface and sub-surface position in equipment

Performs other duties or completes special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills as it pertains to data quality.

Understanding of IT principles to support trouble shooting and vessel infrastructure support.

Effective communications skills, including writing and speaking.

Modify and/or create survey plan to accommodate project requirements.

Understanding of all software functionality to support complete project data delivery.

Ability to meet necessary requirements to work in local and or international offshore environment.

Initiative (self-starter), requiring little to no direct direction from leadership.

Fundamental understanding of classic survey and how they pertain to offshore surveying.

Fundamental understanding of all navigation tools and their interfacing.

Interpersonal skills to interface with key stakeholders as well as lead multi discipline teams.

Have highly developed communications skills, including writing and speaking.

Ability to meet necessary requirements to work in local and or international offshore environment.

Minimum of a 4-year degree in Geomatics, surveying and mapping, civil engineering, GIS, or related disciplines (as mentioned above); or, equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Geomatics experience preferred; military experience with acoustic or navigation systems, or electronics will be considered in lieu of degree.

Survey experience with configuring and utilizing any or all of the following software would be considered a strong attribute; CARIS, Amazon Web Services, Qincy, Hypack, GIS, AutoCAD, Flerdermaus, Microsoft office, PosPac, Chesapeake SonarWiz and TerraPos.

Technical experience with installing, integrating and calibrating survey sensors would be a strong attribute, such as; Multibeam echo sounders (Reson, Kongsberg, R2 Sonic or Norbit), side scan sonar, seismic recording systems, seismic sound sources, network interfacing, IP network address management, water velocity profiles, GPS, GNSS, LIDAR, IMU (such as Applanix), tide gauge, winches, and navigation equipment.

Category A (CAT-A) or ACSM accreditation is also desirable.
