GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking an On-Site Remediation Construction Manager with 10 to 15 years’ experience to support our environmental remediation/construction management practice in our Manhattan, New York office. This position is to initially provide on-site construction manager services for an approximately 20 month duration remedial project in Brooklyn, New York. The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced remediation/construction management professional familiar with all phases of construction and site development with an emphasis on remediation, demolition, and bulkhead installation. The candidate shall be extremely motivated and have the desire to foster technical excellence and strong client relationships.
As an On-Site Remediation Construction Manager, you will work with a staff of interrelated professionals dedicated to providing high-level expertise on complex projects above, below and at ground-level You will represent GZA with the client throughout pre-construction, project performance, and closeout phases, will be responsible for day to day execution of technical and financial aspects of each project, and will be involved with the development and mentoring of junior staff. Managing on-site project team, delegating to field staff, and executing day to day activities of projects including, but not limited to, project administration and oversight, management of change, invoicing and payment, cost tracking and reporting, and contract closeout
Conducting internal and client communications
Monitoring team performance for compliance with contractual agreements and budgets
Reviewing reports, specifications, and contractor submittals
Managing project contractual and financial issues (including terms of agreement, changes in scope, billing process)
Managing and mentoring GZA existing staff of project-level engineers
Conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations
Participating in meetings and agency consultation
Preparing construction cost/quantity estimates
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management preferred
Experience working at consulting engineering firms
Experience with design, management, and implementation of environmental remediation, demolition, and bulkhead installation projects
Strong working knowledge of OSHA/Safety, to include but not limited to 29 CFR 1910.120 HAZWOPER and 1910.12 Construction Worker Safety, and all other applicable environmental regulations and practices and general site construction practices, construction administration and management skills. Demonstrated knowledge of managing projects with a strong safety focus.
Familiarity with contract documents including contract terms and conditions, contract drawings, and detailed specifications.
Familiarity with AIA/Progress Billing, Unit Billing and Time and Materials Billing
Familiarity with project time management, e.g. critical path method, and project cost management, e.g variance analysis, to track schedule and cost evolution and variances.
Demonstrated ability to assure compliance by the Contractor with the intent of the Contract Documents and applicable laws, rules and regulations.
Well developed communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. This individual will act as liaison between Owner, Design Engineer, Contractor, various outside parties including property owners, regulatory agencies, municipalities, and the public.
Self-starter, able to complete tasks with minimal supervision and direction
Demonstrate professional judgment, consistency, strong attention to detail, and background of high quality work products
Demonstrate performance of independent analysis, problem solving and strong organizational skills
Experience in successfully advocating and/or negotiating with regulatory agencies and third parties in favor of client positions
Possess or have completed 10-hour OSHA construction and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
Construction bid specification, demolition, and asbestos experience a plus
