Job Description
GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking an entry level Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will join our team of engineers that work on a variety of projects including geotechnical explorations, foundations, ground improvement, instrumentation, and support of excavation. As part of the geotechnical team, the geotechnical engineer will be provided with the mentoring and training required to successfully complete the assigned tasks. Our collaborative, friendly, dedicated team in Manhattan is looking for motivated, self-starting, technically excellent geotechnical engineers. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of project managers and/or principals.
Primary Responsibilities:
Performing field oversight and documentation of test borings, rock coring, test pits, observation wells, in-situ testing, instrumentation, special inspection and construction observation
Preparing field logs of explorations, subsurface profiles, and daily field reports
Developing draft reports, proposals and project deliverables
Cost estimating
Reviewing contractor submittals and preparation of submittals
Fabrication and installation of instrumentation and monitoring equipment
Monitoring geotechnical instrumentation
Work on multidisciplinary project teams as a reliable, responsible and organized geotechnical engineer
Demonstrate solid technical foundation, including computer skills
Communicating with team including GZA, clients and subcontractors to execute field work
Typical Duties May Include:
Conducting in-situ and foundation tests and subsurface investigation of soil and groundwater
Monitoring and documenting geotechnical aspects of construction projects
Performing engineering computation and analysis of subsurface data
Preparing construction cost/quantity estimates
Performing geotechnical computer modeling and analysis. Experience with geotechnical engineering programs including SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, L-pile and Plaxis is preferred
Qualifications:
BS degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 2 years’ experience working as geotechnical engineer
Or MS degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical concentration
Strong time management, problem solving and organizational skills
Ability to perform a wide range of field tasks and activities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Out of town travel may be expected
