Job Description

The Philadelphia, PA office of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc. (WJE) is seeking an experienced team member with expertise in building enclosure consulting.

With an in-depth knowledge of the design and construction and evaluation of building enclosures, you will work on projects from start to finish and your efforts will be supported by industry leaders and an engaged team.

WJE is a firm of engineers, architects, and materials scientists committed to helping solve, repair, and avoid problems in the built world.

Requirements:

Bachelor or master of science in architecture; architectural engineering; civil, structural, or environmental engineering; building and construction technology; or similar degree

Five or more years of building enclosure consulting

Strong skills in AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, SketchUp, and other programs used to graphically communicate information

Working experience with building energy modeling, building information modeling, and/or other building performance simulations is preferred

Familiar with architectural detailing of facade components and assemblies, particularly the interface of different assemblies or components

Understanding of various methods of water resistance for exterior wall and roof assemblies

Ability to understand the advantages/disadvantages of material selection as it relates to long-term durability and performance

Ability to work in the field and to travel outside local area as workload and projects require

Typical Responsibilities:

Development of client relationships, including attracting new and repeat business

Project management, including developing project scope, assembling and managing appropriate project teams, maintaining project schedules and budgets, and managing client expectations and deliverables

Preparation of project deliverables, including but not limited to proposals, analysis results, drawings, specifications, and project reports

On-site inspection/investigation including surveying and documentation of distress, field testing, sampling, photographing, sketching, and designing repair details as needed

Development of alternate solutions to client building enclosure concerns using prior experience, research, and investigation data

Performance evaluation of a variety of new and existing exterior wall and window systems

This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computer, printer, tablet, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:

Ability to attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites

Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors

Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials and computer screens

Ability to travel

Ability to safely work at heights

Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipment

Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards

Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations

Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment

Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle
