We approach problems with creativity and innovation. Schnabel Engineering, Inc. is seeking a temporary full-time intern to join our Baltimore, VA office in the summer of 2020 (May through August). We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of and help support a strong team.
Job Responsibilities:
Performing construction materials observations and testing (generally including testing of concrete, soil and asphalt) at local construction sites. This is the primary responsibility of this position.
Performing geotechnical testing in our Soil Laboratory
Performing concrete testing in our Materials Laboratory
Performing field engineering activities related to geotechnical engineering design (may include test boring observation, boring stakeout, well readings, etc.)
Responsibilities will depend on Schnabel’s workload. Our professional staff will assist in developing a fundamental understanding of the Geotechnical Engineering industry.
Required Skills/Experience:
Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program. Candidates in programs with a focus on geotechnical engineering are preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task

Desire and willingness to work outdoors
Ability to routinely lift up to 40 pounds
Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle; mileage (excluding mileage for commute) will be reimbursed based on the allowable IRS rate for travel assignments
Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
Ability to pass a pre-employment employment drug screening
