Barrick is looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Barrick Nevada Goldstrike Open Pit Engineering team. The Geotechnical Engineer engages with all areas of the Open Pit Division as they are essential for all facets of mining from the design and planning for a future area or phase, drilling and blasting, environmental responsibility, and finally field compliance to pit design recommendations.
Reporting to the Chief Geotechnical Engineer, the Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for the following:
Deployment and maintenance of slope monitoring tools including prisms, radars, vibrating wire piezometers, TDR, etc., and interpretation of monitoring data
Supervision of drilling programs, geotechnical logging, collection of drilled samples for lab testing
Assist with design of excavated slopes, and monitoring compliance to design recommendations
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Engineering, Geology or related field required
Two (2) to five (5) years of site-based experience in an open pit geotechnical role preferred
Excellent safety record with the ability to demonstrate safety leadership required
Working within a team, problem solving, and excellent communication skills required
Ability to work outside in varied weather conditions for extended periods of time required
Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this job required
