GAI Consultants is currently looking for a Geotechnical Project Manager 1 to be based in our Pittsburgh, PA office. Under the direction of the Geotechnical Group Manager, this individual will provide project management and geotechnical engineering support for projects in the Energy, Transportation and Community Development business units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform geotechnical engineering assignments involving investigations for a variety of facilities including, but not limited to: foundations for transmission lines, buildings, bridges, retaining walls and other structures; designs for natural gas pipelines and compressor stations; design of residual waste landfills and impoundments; and other typical geotechnical projects.
Prepare geotechnical engineering designs involving: rock/soil slope stability; cut slope and fill embankment design; landslide stabilization (reinforcement with rock anchors/ soil nails, GRS slopes); geotechnical field instrumentation; soil reinforcement and ground improvement techniques (CMCs, compaction grouting, stone columns); sheet pile/retaining walls (gravity walls, soldier pile and lagging walls, MSE walls, T-walls); shallow and deep foundations (spread footings, driven piles, micropiles, drilled shafts).
Delivers scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety and profitability of all projects managed.
Plans and manages small to medium value projects, with a single or dual discipline focus and a low to medium risk profile.
Manages a small number of projects (typically 3 to 5) with up to 0.5 M per year of total billings.
Minimum of 8 years of total engineering or technical experience, with at least 2 of those years serving as a Task or Project Manager leading and directing projects or tasks.
Bachelor’s degree Civil or Environmental Engineering is required, Master’s degree preferred.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships.
Demonstrated working knowledge of fundamental project management skills, with a willingness to learn GAI-specific project management procedures and requirements.
Demonstrated working knowledge of fundamental project management financial concepts, including developing pricing, cost budget monitoring, calculating profit, etc.
Experience with Deltek for Professional Services, including Client Relationship Management applications is preferred.
Current valid state-issued driver's license.
Physical Demands and/or Other Job Information (if applicable):
Must be able to travel and work out of the office, including overnight trips. In state travel is a requirement and extended field assignments are likely. There may be also up to 25% out of state travel associated with this position on a specific basis to assist other offices.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
