With a relatively minor amount of oversight and supervision, coordinate services consistent with client's needs by either performing or arranging qualified personnel to perform applicable geotechnical and/or materials testing. Perform field observations and evaluations for soils/geotechnical-related projects, construction observations/testing and special inspection services. Will also prepare associated reports, and manage project testing for assigned jobs. Work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Conduct engineering observations/judgments of geotechnical activities.
•Perform special inspection services and materials testing services on an as-needed basis (some full-time duties may be required).
•Prepare formal reports and site visit reports of soils, materials, and special inspection services.
•Coordinate with other AET staff to perform testing and observation services.
•Perform testing, monitoring programs, and other activities in the field.
•Manage projects from initial authorization to completion including client interaction, work scheduling, establishing and monitoring project budget, timely invoicing and quality control.
•Maintain current working knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, procedures and technologies in designated field(s).
•Prepare proposals and assist in promoting AET services.
OTHER AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
•Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and AET’s Health and Safety Policy, and that promotes the safety and protection of employees, clients and the public.
•Maintain valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Some positions may require use of personal vehicle for company business. Maintain compliance with DOT driver regulations if required for position. Maintain appropriate physicals if required for position.
•Frequent travel required within regional area.
•Occasional out-of-town travel.
•Many duties outdoors or away from main office/laboratory location.
•Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment.
•Complete assigned projects within budget and satisfy client needs.
•Coordinate with other AET staff with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency, productivity and communication.
•Develop and maintain business contacts.
•Aid in company marketing functions.
•Participate in at least one professional organization.
•Maintain professional registration(s) or progress toward registration
•Perform other duties as required to meet departmental and company goals.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Civil or Geological Engineering Technician with 10 or more years of related experience, OR;
•Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological Engineering or Geology with 5 or more years of related experience, OR;
•Advanced degree in Civil, Geological Engineering or Geology with 3 or more years of related experience.
•Appropriate “in-training” certification required in areas licensed by the state.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
•Demonstrated skill and proficiency in engineering or scientific principles and the ability to develop and implement solutions to a wide range of problems.
•Experience using personal computer software, especially Microsoft Office.
•Capable of the physical labor required, with personal protective equipment. Ability to occasionally move 50 to 100 pounds.
•Communication skills sufficient to convey complex technical information in a clear manner to diverse audiences.
•Ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues and problems in a constructive manner, and work independently in the field.
•Demonstrated knowledge and application of company quality, safety, technical, and accounting standards, procedures and programs.
•Ability to organize and prioritize workload based on client and department schedules.
•Skill in analyzing complex project related data, identifying root causes of problems, ability to recognize when innovative solutions are required and may need to be escalated to higher levels, and provide input to resolution.
•Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project and client needs.
•Ability to work at environmental remediation, industrial and construction sites and perform field work including, but not limited to, collecting samples, operating field instruments, following procedures, planning, organizing and arranging logistics for the job, and documenting field activities and data collected.
