We are seeking a highly motivated, organized database and visualization specialist to support environmental engineering, and geoscience projects in the Philadelphia or New Jersey area. The position may be located in our Blue Bell, PA, or Ewing, NJ office and will work with a multi-disciplinary team from these offices. As a database and visualization specialist, you will apply your academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world situations related to contaminated site assessment and remediation while also learning and expanding the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

Designing, developing and customizing environmental databases;

Performing routine data processing activities on platforms such as EQuIS, Envirodata, Microsoft Access and other custom applications;

Interacting with analytical laboratories to ensure that laboratory data deliverables are compatible with database formats;

Producing summary tables, statistical analyses, and output formats that integrate with other applications (e.g. ESRI ArcGIS, scientific modelling applications, regulatory agency submittals, etc.);

Developing efficient and innovative methods for managing data, including program automation scripts (Python, VBA, R, etc.), and custom system development;

Preparing data visualization outputs using ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, EVS, Autodesk AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and/or database scripts (Python, VBA, R, etc.);

Workflow and metadata documentation; preparing maps and exhibits using GIS data sets; and

Interacting with internal clients to support engineering and environmental projects.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or environmental geography (required).

1 to 3 years of related work experience including the following: (required)

Technical training and strong experience database technology at either the undergraduate or post-graduate level.

Experience with database management platforms for environmental and engineering applications, including the ability to write complex queries and develop custom reports.

Experience with database and Geographic Information System (GIS) scripting (Python, VBA, etc.)

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to write complex formulas, creating graphs and analyses, and automate routine processes (required).

Creative self-starter with strong time management skills and the ability to meet competing deadlines (required).

Preferred candidates will also possess the following professional attributes:

Advanced degree in computer science, engineering or environmental geography.

Prior internship or work experience in environmental consulting.

Experience with GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS).

Experience with concepts of geography and cartography.

Knowledge of global positioning system (GPS) data, other collection systems, coordinate systems, projections, and geo-referencing.

Experience with contaminated media, remediation technology, or vapor intrusion.

Knowledge of server architecture and web technology.

Experience with ESRI ArcMap extension Spatial Analyst, R, or EVS.

Experience with three-dimensional modeling and visualization including the process of converting, importing, and exporting surfaces between programs.

Experience with the front-end process of collecting field data with various GPS units and the process of downloading and compiling the data.

Understanding and use of graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and GINT.

Knowledge of laboratory analytical data verification and validation processes.
