We’re are seeking an exceptional senior-level geotechnical engineer to help grow our mining / geotechnical engineering practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota. You will contribute to innovative and challenging projects involving earth retaining structures, geotechnical and slope stability investigations, dams and containment structures, solid waste permitting and design, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, numerical analysis of stability and deformation, and CCR Rule design and permitting.

 ABOUT THE POSITION:

 This is a position that involves diverse project experiences. Some of the key responsibilities for this position could include developing field investigation work plans, preparing geotechnical design reports, overseeing and mentoring junior geotechnical engineers, and developing business with new and existing clients.

Some of the task-level or project management responsibilities you will be asked to take on include:

Providing technical leadership on geotechnical design efforts;

Preparing construction specifications and plans;

Conducting construction inspections and acting as owner-engineer;

Developing multimedia permit applications, negotiating permit conditions, and helping develop strategies to comply with permit conditions; and

Managing litigation support projects under attorney-client privilege.

Here are some other things you should know about this Senior Geotechnical Engineer position:

Training: This position requires OSHA/MSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including technical conferences, in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.

Overnight travel: Up to 30%

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

BS degree in geologic or civil engineering or a related field. [required]

Advanced degree in geotechnical engineering or a related field. [preferred]

Minimum 10 years directly relevant experience in a mining or consulting environment. [required]

Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software. [required]

Knowledge of numerical modeling and rock mechanics tools. [preferred]

Experience includes geotechnical support services for mining / construction industries. [preferred]

Knowledge of geotechnical fieldwork activities including drilling and sampling programs, construction management, and construction quality assurance. [preferred]

Expertise in geotechnical engineering analyses (e.g., slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seepage, liquefaction, seismic). [preferred]

Experience in civil design and site layout. [required]

Experience in geotechnical feasibility studies, cost estimating, design, and implementation. [preferred]

Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. [required]

Professional registration in Minnesota, or the ability to become licensed within six months of hire. [required]

Current Experienced Miner 24-hr/40-hr MSHA training and refreshers. [preferred]

Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. [required]
