We are seeking an exceptional entry-level geotechnical engineer to help grow our civil and geotechnical practices in either of our Oak Brook or Chicago, Illinois offices. As an entry-level geotechnical engineer, you will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world situations involving civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering in support of our power utility, solid waste, and industrial sectors, while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? We expect that the selected candidate will work on a diverse array of complex projects throughout the Midwest region and the US. The typical project portfolio includes dams and containment structures; slope stability analysis; site characterization; coal combustion residual engineering; ground improvement; impoundment closures; earth retaining structures; deep foundations; landfill engineering; and geosynthetics engineering.

Some of the key responsibilities for the Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer position include:

Geotechnical site characterization using laboratory and field data;

Geotechnical engineering analyses including but not limited to slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seepage, liquefaction, and seismicity;

Civil design and site layout;

Preparation and review of engineering design calculations, feasibility studies, drawings, reports, permit applications, volume and cost estimates, construction documents, and construction support services; and

Managing multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.

Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including technical conferences, in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.

Fieldwork: Up to 35%

Overnight travel: Up to 25%

BS in Engineering (civil degree with geotechnical emphasis) (required).

Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)

0 – 2 years of work experience. (preferred)

Ability to obtain professional certification (P.E.). (required)

Excellent leadership and detail-orientation skills. (required)

Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handle multiple project assignments, meet strict deadlines, and travel to/from client facilities as needed.

Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. (required)
