Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Geotechnical/Geological Engineer to join our Tunnel Engineering Services Group in Sterling, VA.
This position will work in a project team environment to develop geotechnical plans for underground infrastructure. Primary geotechnical responsibilities will include defining the subsurface investigation and testing programs; scheduling and coordination; performing geotechnical engineering analysis; and preparing logs and writing engineering reports. Duties will also include attending meetings and field observations during construction. Willingness to travel is required; some overnight travel should be expected.
Qualifications for the position include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s Degree preferred) with a focus on Infrastructure, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geological Engineering, at an accredited four-year program.
Knowledge of tunnel and underground construction is highly desired.
Knowledge of international construction practices and design codes is highly desired.
Physical ability to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside.
Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and data management computer programs.
Very good oral and written communications skills.
Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Attention to detail and well-organized.
US Citizenship is required.
DOD security clearance at a minimum Top Secret level is required.
