We are looking for a talented Geostructural Engineer with an entrepreneurial spirit to join our dynamic team as a Team Leader in the Rockville, MD office.

About the Role:

As the Geostructural Team Leader, you will be responsible for growing the geostructural business. You will participate in multidisciplinary project teams, often involving multiple Schnabel offices. Your demonstrated success in business development, ability to lead a high-performing team, and commitment to exceptional client service and technical excellence, while balancing project risks and business needs, make you the perfect fit for our team!

Typical geostructural projects include analyses and detailed design of support of excavation systems, underpinning of existing structures, stabilization of slopes and other earth structures, steel and concrete design, soil improvement, shallow and deep foundation systems, earth retaining structures, grouting programs, design and oversight of positive cutoff walls, and numerical analysis.

The responsibilities of the position also include:

Senior project management including contract negotiation and risk management

Business development in a predominantly seller-doer role

Coordinating geostructural services with internal and external clients

Preparation and review of proposals and engineering reports

Preparation and review of detailed design drawings and construction specifications

Oversight of the work of geostructural staff

Construction administration

Meeting deadlines

Some field work and overnight travel

Team management and administrative duties

Other tasks as required to support projects and business goals

You Bring:

Advanced degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Structural Engineering

10+ years of relevant experience

PE certification in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia (or ability to acquire within 6 months)

Demonstrated business development success

Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment

Confidence and independence, with a shared sense of responsibility

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Computer savvy

Basic understanding and working knowledge of AutoCAD drafting software

Effective time management and interpersonal skills

Qualified candidates will have a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit checks. U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required. No visa sponsorship will be provided.

Seismic hazard analysis and dynamic response modeling

Cost estimating

MicroStation drafting software

Previous experience working for a construction contractor
