The West Chester, PA office of Schnabel Engineering is currently seeking a Staff/Senior Staff Engineer to support our Geodesign engineering group.
Our Geodesign group provides a broad range of consulting services including subsurface exploration and testing, analysis, detailed design, value engineering, construction-phase engineering and forensics. Services include support of excavation (SOE) systems, underpinning of structures, geo-hazards and stabilization of natural and man-made slopes and other earth systems/structures, steel and concrete design, ground improvement, shallow and deep foundation systems, earth retaining structures, grouting programs, design and oversight of positive cutoff walls, dewatering systems, cofferdams, and numerical analysis.
Minimum qualifications for the position include a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year program focused in geotechnical or structural engineering and 0-4 years of professional experience. Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field is desirable. Successful completion of the E.I.T. is also beneficial. Qualified candidates should be well-rounded and have an interest in developing both field and analytical skills.
Good oral and written communications skills, positive attitude, and computer literacy are a must. Field work and travel will be required, including assignments that may last several weeks, and in some cases in support of other office locations. Candidates must be able to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside.
Candidates with a Master’s degree and/or prior professional or summer intern experience in a related field are highly desirable and will be given additional consideration. Experience with AutoCAD and/or gINT is preferable. Successful completion of the E.I.T. is also beneficial.
The successful candidate for this position will gain practical knowledge and experience while solving real engineering problems under the supervision of senior engineering personnel. Responsibilities for this position include geotechnical and geostructural analysis and design support construction observation, subsurface exploration observation and logging, materials testing, preparation of field reports, performing slope stability and seepage analysis, and preparation of design calculations and drawings.
