Job Description

Basic Function

Integrated differentiating client solutions that leverage digital solutions where applicable. Participate in and contribute to the successful execution of complex marine projects that deliver Client business benefit and value. Analyze and interpret data. Conduct independent research into industry developments and practice. Start developing industry recognition within field of expertise. Lead marine site characterisation project opportunities with aim of delivering differentiating engineering value through integrated solutions. Employ integrated digital solutions to achieve differentiating value through excellence and client focus. Think outside the box with solutions that best position Fugro to win and successfully deliver projects. Strengths in engineering with good knowledge of geophysics, metocean and environmental services. Support business development to identify and pitch innovative differentiating client solutions.

1. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1.1 People Development

a) Be partnered with a new graduate recruit.

b) Encourage team building and a supportive work environment.

c) Participate in the growth of engineer and of the geoconsulting department.

1.2 Knowledge Sharing

a) Participate in project lessons learned exercises.

b) Develop personal skill set through Fugro Academy on-line training.

c) Develop presentation/public speaking skills in internal/external situations.

1.3 Project Execution

Contribute to the successful completion of highly complex engineering projects by:

a) Recommend resources required to meet particular project objectives.

b) Interpreting and reporting project data.

c) Performing relevant engineering analyses.

d) Drafting reports and advice notes.

e) Checking the analytical work of others.

f) Co-signatory on reports issued to Clients.

g) Contract Management/Project CTR control.

h) May require to work offshore on short missions.

i) Work collaboratively with the Marine Geotechnical, Geophysical and Pile Monitoring service lines.

1.4 Proposal Development

Contribute to the preparation and drafting of proposals including:

a) Identifying client's wishes/requirements and defining objectives;

b) Participating in the definition of scopes of work and budget required;

c) Identifying risks and developing appropriate management strategies;

d) Performing pricing/costing analyses;

e) Actively following up proposals and tenders.

1.5 Business Development/Client Relationship Management

a) Develop relationships and rapport with clients and peers through normal project progressions;

b) Meet or improve on project deadlines and budgets;

c) Attend meeting with Clients throughout MEI region (pre-tender, project related or on consultancy basis);

d) Develop understanding of market requirement within discipline to define services and solutions that competitively separate Fugro;

e) Attend industry conferences and exhibitions within established frameworks;

f) Support the growth of the geoconsulting department.

1.6 Consulting/Technical Expertise

a) Conceive and plan informed and progressive work programs solving challenging engineering problems, especially with respect of challenges observed in carbonate soils.

b) Develop and maintain technical and professional recognition in the field, working towards a reputation as a subject matter expert in one of the following discipline: pile foundations, shallow foundations, anchor foundations, pipeline, geohazard.

c) Be able to identify and correct mathematical calculations of subordinates and peers.

d) Regularly attend industry meetings to ensure continued professional development.

e) Develop through internal interactions and appropriate external development a strong commercial understanding of consulting services.

1.7 Innovation

a) Ensure quantity and transparency of accumulated knowledge regarding developments in the practice area with particular focus on carbonate soils, seeking out opportunities for applied research and development of engineering advances that will have a significant impact on the industry and Fugro's competitive position in the Middle East.

Qualifications required:

a) Msc in Geotechnical Engineering, eligible to have engineering affiliation.

b) Extensive experience with geotechnical engineering and consultancy (8 years as a guideline) with prior project experience in Middle East.

c) Fluent in English, with excellent report writing and formal communication skills.

d) Willing to travel in the region and attend meeting or get involved in short offshore mission.

Skills / experience required to do the job:

a) Previous experience on desktop studies related to marine infrastructure and site characterization.

b) Maintain up to date with technical developments in industry and academia. Integrate expertise from other experts from the global Geoconsulting service line. Assist with cross training and knowledge transfer between engineers, build team.

c) Cultivate the good work ethic within Marine Geoconsulting and with local, global peers.
